Things to ask your engineer and surveyor....

 Would you hire an un-insured doctor or other professional?  What about an engineer or surveyor?  Did you know that engineers and surveyors are not required by law to carry errors and omissions insurance for private projects?  Before engaging a surveyor or engineer, ask if they have E & O insurance.  You should also ask if they have general business and automotive coverage.  Sure it adds to their overhead, but if the firm is properly organized, like Mason & Stanfield, this is mitigated by keeping overhead low in other areas.
